Hong Kong Rugby Sevens

Rugby Sevens weekend. Really the only live sports event we get in Hong Kong. It is an event that is basically talked about all year. Our first year in HK, we missed it by a month and we never heard the end of it. I attended a southern football school, so I am no stranger to early morning tailgating (and all day drinking while watching football). I won't say this event is a walk in the park, but it is no Georgia-Florida game. There is no real tailgating, so we made our own at a friends house at 7:30 a.m. complete with breakfast and mimosas. Then it was off to the stadium.  At this event, you go in costume and a lot of people go all out. Our theme ended up being Togas and Top Gun. Very random, I know.

At the stadium in the South Stands at 9:00a.m. South stands is were all the young, costumed people sit. People line up early to get in as soon as they open the gates. The stadium fills from the top-down and the only seats left  by the time we got there were at the very front.

The Hong Kong Sevens is the sport's most prestigious annual rugby sevens event. Rugby Sevens is made up of seven players and the matches are very short. Every time you turn around, a new game is going on. In reality, it is a big social event and you may watch a few matches, but people come for the party.

Sam and Rebecca, who were visiting from the states. They planned their trip to make sure they were here to experience a Seven's weekend.

Costumes in the crowd

Yes these guys were dressed in what it looks like...

My favorite group of the day

Breakfast snacks

What are these old guys doing here? And pretty sure match shirts don't count as costumes.

Being in the front row has its advantages. These guys have serious ass-ets.

The guys decided to rip their under shirts. Still not really sure what the thought process was here.

Matt's shirt being ripped off in the background.

And no under shirts or sleeves. Real sexy boys..

Half time show

Yes, it was a good day. Some dignity was lost, but no cell phones or wallets.
Until next year.
