Weekend at the River, Sylva North Carolina
I went back to the states recently. Part of my trip was to visit my aunt and uncle in Sylva, North Carolina. Their house is located right on the Tuckaseegee river. My sister, her kids and my mom were able to come along for the fun. It felt like we were at camp again. Hiking, bonfires, fishing, tubing down the river and just good old fun. Sylva is easy to get to, only a 3.5 hours drive from Atlanta, straight up Highway 441. A small town of about 2,500 people. Several movies have been filmed in in this sleepy town including the The Fugitive (1993) and Deliverance (1972).
Name of their house is Reel A Lure. How cute is that?!
We didn't waste any time exploring the river once we arrived.
Chilling with my favorite kids, Jackson and Jordan.
Jackson helps us get ready for the bonfire for the next night.
We attempted a few games of horseshoes, but fishing was more of a priority.
Aunt Dooda-queen of baiting the hooks
I helped cast for the kiddies
Jackson caught a small trout.
Uncle Steve grilling up the ribs-mmm! He seriously makes the best!!!
Ribs, watermelon, mac and cheese. Food for the soul!
Pic of their eldest grandson. Had to include this.
Belated B-day celebration for Brookie.
Found these loom kits and all had a go at making some. Memories of Kanuga!
Next morning, we are off for a hike! Another great sunny day!
Mom and her girls.
We went about 15 minutes away to a state park to check out some waterfalls and the tubing scene.
Yucky slug.
Jackson was fascinated with all the tubers.
Bennett Fire station in town-woohoo!
Time for some more fishing and tubing of our own back at the house!
Brooke and Jackson kept fishing with success.
Tube time!
We had dinner with Steve and Dooda's neighbors.
Sister love!
Bonfire prep! And we used fire starters that I found on Pinterest (Dooda already knew about them- of course!)
Cool caterpillar.
I like the funny photos better!
Clean.
Dirty.
We found a quarter of a skateboard washed up on the river bend. Jordan was testing it out.
S'more time!
Jordan and I had beauty parlor night.
The next morning, beauty parlor continued. Jordan was the hair stylist and Jackson the assistant.
Our shoes drying from tubing.
No trip to North Carolina is complete without shooting a few guns.
We took a quick walk up the road to check out the sights and sounds. Another cool caterpillar.
Loved this old swing.
Telling Jordan it was almost time to go home.
One pit stop before we hit the road, trout pond. Unfortunately they didn't like our bait or weren't hungry. We will have to try again next time!
Thanks to Dooda and Steve for a great time! I hope we can do it again soon. Next time I will bring CB! I had a blast hanging out with the fam!
